Ways to Donate
Every day in Canada, a naval veteran endures financial hardship due to affordability problems, homelessness, medical issues, loss of a spouse, etc. Sailors and their families face difficulties brought on by deployment, frequent relocation, family illness, debt, or mental illness.
Donating Funds
Make a MONTHLY donation for the best impact. Sustaining funds ensure that those who serve or have served Canada at sea do not face their problems alone. Use our secure donation platform; check the recurrence setting to “Monthly.”
Make a one-time donation. Use our secure donation platform; check the recurrence setting to “one-time.”
Designate your gift to a specific program. Call our office at 613-519-7741 and tell us how you would like your gift to be used:
- Individual Support for those in need
- Community Support Program
- Navalis Leadership Award
- A special project currently underway like service dogs for naval veterans, or a “Navy” tiny home in a Homes for Heroes Village
Dedicate your contribution “In Memorium” to honour a fallen sailor. Navalis will notify the bereaved family of your thoughtful gesture (don’t forget to provide the contact information).
Make a Planned Gift
Donating to the Navalis Foundation can make a lasting impact on the lives of naval veterans and their families in times of need. Planned gifts—donations made during your lifetime or received by the Foundation in the future—help ensure that sailors and their families continue to receive support for generations to come.
Types of Planned Gift
Gift BEQUESTS - Include the Navalis Foundation in your will. Bequests can take the form of cash, securities, stock, real estate, or a percentage of real estate.
Donate RRSP/RRIF Funds - Leave the remaining assets in your retirement plan to the Foundation after your passing.
Gift LIFE INSURANCE - Make a meaningful contribution by donating a new or existing life insurance policy.
Donate Appreciated Securities - Donate stock or other securities to the Foundation and avoid paying capital gains tax.
Give Property - Gifts of real estate or valuable personal property can make a significant difference in the Foundation’s ability to support the naval community.
IMPORTANT - Before making a large donation of funds, assets, or bequests, donors should conduct thorough due diligence, consult with professional advisors, and clarify their philanthropic goals.
Seek advice from a tax advisor and a legal or estate planning professional to understand the tax implications and maximize benefits, such as tax credits and the elimination of capital gains tax on donations of publicly traded securities.
Financial Advisors: Consult a financial advisor to ensure the donation will not jeopardize your or your family's future financial security and to determine the most tax-efficient assets to donate (e.g., appreciated securities rather than cash).
Appraisers: For donations of property or valuable tangible items, obtain one or more independent professional appraisals to determine the fair market value for tax purposes.
